‚An electromyograph detects the electrical potential generated by muscle cells when these cells are electrically or neurologically activated‘ (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electromyography), a method used by Godfrey Edward Arnold for diagnosing laryngeal problems. Much like the wave-form diagrams of digital audio recordings, electromyography is a method of visualising the human voice not in its meaning (that’s what writing does), but in its fleeting materiality. Thus, I based this track on an ‚electrophonogram’ (a recording) of me performing my piece ‚MeditAtiOn on Duration (Part II: Vanishing)‘ by surgically removing the pauses specified by the original score.
‚Die Elektromyografie (oder -graphie) (EMG) ist eine elektrophysiologische Methode in der neurologischen Diagnostik, bei der die elektrische Muskelaktivität gemessen wird'(de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elektromyografie), eine Methode, die Gottfried Eduard Arnold zur Diagnose von Kehlkopfproblemen anwendete. Ähnlich den Wellenform-Diagrammen digitaler Audio-Aufzeichnungen ist Elektromyographie eine Methode, die menschliche Stimme zu visualisieren – nicht hinsichtlich ihrer Bedeutung (was in der Schrift geschähe), sondern hinsichtlich ihrer flüchtigen Materialität. So basiert mein Track auf einem ‚Elektrophonogramm‘ meiner Performance meines Stückes ‚MeditAtiOn on Duration (Part II: Vanishing)‘ , bei der ich chirurgisch die Pausen des Original-Scores entfernte.
